My grandmother, Beatrice Norris, served as a Harvey Girl at the Slaton and Brownwood, Texas, Harvey Houses during World War II. Her experience working for the Fred Harvey Company inspired my short story, Love Twice Served, featured in our upcoming anthology--Booked for Love.

As I researched the history of Fred Harvey, the Harvey Girls, and the famous Harvey Houses along the Santa Fe Railway, I discovered fascinating details about their lives, work, and the opportunities they found during a remarkable period in American history. I wove many of those authentic details into Love Twice Served, blending my grandmother’s legacy with a fictional story of faith, hope, and love.

Although Love Twice Served is a work of fiction, it was a joy to honor my grandmother’s legacy by weaving pieces of her Harvey Girl experience into the story. I hope readers will enjoy this glimpse into history as much as I enjoyed bringing it to life.
