Meet Piper Haydn’s best friend, Roosevelt (a.k.a. Rosie) I’m in bold.
Thanks for inviting me out today. I love coffee.
I’m glad you had time to meet. What’s your favorite?
Lavender latte with extra cream or anything spicy
What are your plans for today?
Today I’m painting the preschool room at Piper’s academy. Music notes butterflies, positive sayings…you know, fun stuff.
What exactly do you do for Piper?
Paint, decorate, run errands, she’s not my full-time job. I have an art studio in the little shed in my backyard and sell my pieces at various shops around Cranberry Harbor. I teach some classes at the academy too.
How old are you?
29
Are you married?
No, I haven’t met the right one and I’m wary—my dad left my mom and us kids when I was a teenager. I don’t want that kind of guy. I don’t date often.
What are you afraid of?
Well, like I said, marrying the wrong guy, I’m also afraid of spiders.
What do you love?
Coffee, tea, flowers–my favorite is daisies, color, art, country music—Piper hates that about me haha—a good book, friends, this town,
Did you grow up here?
No, we moved here after my dad left my mom when I was a kid. It’s home.
Do you see your dad?
Rarely. He has a whole new family wife, kids, and dog–the works. It is weird.
Hurts too?
Yeah
What’s your style?
Boho, hippie, eclectic, I love to wear funky prints, flowers, loose stuff. Ugly 70s things from the thrift store.
Do you go to church?
Yes, same church as Piper Grace
Does your faith help you through hard things?
Yes, it does, but sometimes I am not as close to God as I wish I were. I mean, I know he’s there, but then I get busy or I get overwhelmed with life or I get mad about my dad and I step away.
What’s your favorite thing about church?
Well, other than the teaching, I love helping in the baby nursery. They’re so sweet. I tried helping with the teenagers, but they wear me out.
Do you participate in a singles group?
(eye roll)–sometimes but that feels like a bunch of sweet girls and loser guys. It’s going nowhere. Other than the new single pastor they brought on—he’s kinda cute.
What’s your favorite meal?
Mrs. Haydn’s pasta, but I also love anything Mexican and a big, juicy steak.
How tall are you?
5’ 2”
Bad habits?
I talk too much and laugh at inappropriate things or inappropriate times. I don’t realize that it’s a bad time to say something. I eat way too many sweets–but never chocolate–and I lick my fingers when something is yummy.
Any good habits?
I am loyal, cheerful, and fun. Helping is enjoyable for me. I see and hear things people need and try to take care of them. Teaching others to express their God-given creativity through art makes me so happy.
Do you cook?
Ha! No. I’m more of a baker than a cook. My specialty is a butter cake.
Where do you live?
My house is close to the beach, about a block away. I can hear the lake at night sometimes in the summer.
Do you live alone?
I do my house is tiny.
Do you have pets?
No, but I’d love a dog—too much responsibility right now.
Favorite television show?
I don’t watch too much Downton Abbey; I guess.
Is Rosie your full name?
Nope, it’s Roosevelt, but don’t call me that—I go by Rosie.
Roosevelt?
Yeah, all my siblings have presidential names: Kennedy, Lincoln, Harrison, and Truman
That’s interesting. How did your parents choose those names?
My mom is a history teacher.
It’s been nice meeting you!
Thanks. You too. I gotta get a refill on this latte—lots to do today.
You run on caffeine?
Haha–something like that, thanks again.
You will find Rosie in each Piper Haydn Piano Mystery.
